Ascension

Ascension as taught by the Ishayas

Ascension is the name given to a particular method of spiritual practice by the Ishayas, a group of monks from the Himalayas who have practiced and guarded these teachings for thousands of years. The person who "brought it to the West", Maharishi Sadashiva Isham, better known as MSI, published a series of books on the practice, and created an organization which today trains, teaches and spreads these teachings throughout the world.

While the methods specifically taught by the Ishayas are perhaps "new", the practice of Ascension is based on ancient yoga practices and the yoga sutras. Specifically it is a form of Advaita Vedanta, the most influential Hindu philosophy, and closely associated to Jnana Yoga, the "yoga of knowledge". These have been taught and practiced for over 5,000 years.

In introducing these teachings, we felt it important to provide some background information on the knowledge and tradition upon which they are based, and so have included sections on Yoga Principles, Jnana Yoga, as well as Advaita Vedanta.
